Principal
As principal at Warriappendi I am passionate to see students engage in learning that is enjoyable, relevant and meaningful. Experiencing success is crucial for all students and this can only occur when student feel included, welcomed and safe.
Literacy and numeracy skills are vital and at Warriapendi we focus on innovative and fun ways to develop understandings across the curriculum. As an experienced arts and media teacher I ensure that all students have access to creative and expressive subjects as this not only fosters skill development but also leads to improved self esteem and confidence.
We have a whole school approach to student well being at Warriappendi with the size and capability to cater extensively for individual student education and emotional needs.

Rose Irving

Co-ordinator / Counseller
Rose coordinates the Future Pathways program including work experience. Her role also includes:
- counselling for students and staff
- overseeing daily operations
- enrolling new students
- working with families and service agencies
- supporting students with behaviour and social skills
- linking students with community support agencies
- a mentor to enable students to achieve their academic and personal goals.

The level of support provided at Warriappendi is way beyond a normal educational service. Students are supported with accessing finance, legal spport, medial, dental ans personal issues.
Extra-curricular activities such as drama and dance are set up where indicated, maintaining liasion with Tirkandi on site student suport in accessing Youth Workers.

Curriculum/Student Achievement
Warriappendi has a flexible curriculum designed to engage a wide range of learners. There is a strong Indigenous cultural focus across the majority of SACSA areas. Warriappendi is especially strong in the arts.
Flexible SACE programs give students access to Stages 1 and 2 which may include Maths, ESL, Australian and Aboriginal Studies, Media Studies and Community Studies. A school band performs at a range of public and community events.
Students feel cared for and have a strong sense of belonging. Small classes and personal mentors ensure individual literacy support.
Warriappendi promotes Performing Arts, Automotive and Media Studies, Physical Education and Art that provide a practical context for learning activities.

Glen Hart

Teacher
Glen is homegroup teacher for the younger boys and teaches Maths Science and Physical Education across the school.
He coordinates Operation Flinders for participating students. It is a 'leading quality Wilderness Program' for young people at risk.

Bryan Whiteman

Media Studies/Auto/Technical Studies
Bryan heads up the academic side of the SACE Media team and is devloping automotive studies as a SACE / VET program. Greater emphasis is being put on VET Broadcasting to celebrate students work in the public arena and produce works for external groups.
His classes are hands on experiences for students, provide a wide choice of projects and assessment tasks and are cross curricular. Keep you eye on the Newsletter for new developments.

Senior School Officer
Pat as recently completed her Masters degree in Special Education. She works with individual students on literacy and also teaches Maths classes.
Pat's particular interest is in the pastoral care of all students. Happy kids work better.

IN THE MUSIC ROOM


IN THE MUSIC ROOM WE EXPLORE THE TALENTS OF THE STUDENTS ALONG THE LINES OF POTENTIAL MUSICIANS, AS SINGERS AND PLAYERS.

WE SING WITH THE BAND, NOT KARAOKE STYLE, BUT WITH THE OTHER MUSICIANS.

ITS NOT EASY, LIKE SINGING ALONG TO CD'S, BUT WITH TIME WE GET THE HANG OF IT.

BAND MEMBERS TRY TO LEARN THE BASICS OF GUITAR, BASS AND KEYBOARDS, GOOD ENOUGH TO BACK A SINGER. THEN WE GET A SET OF SONGS TOGETHER.

TOGETHER WE LEARN TO ORGANISE WORDS AND NOTES TO HELP US GET THROUGH TO A SET OF SONGS AND THEN TAKE THIS TO THE COMMUNITY AND PLAY AT COMMUNITY EVENTS OR PLAY AT ACHIEVEMENT DAY AT SCHOOL.

OTHERS LEARN AN INSTRUMENT OF THEIR CHOICE, AND SOME EVEN CHANGE THEIR MIND TO LEARN A SECOND INSTRUMENT, TAKING WHAT THEY LEARNT FROM THEIR FIRST CHOICE AS A FOUNDATION FOR THE LEARNING.

MUSIC IS IMPORTANT TO US IN THE MUSIC ROOM.

Media Teacher/Filmmaker
The advances in media technology opens the way for everyone to have a voice. Even those students challenged by English literacy can be creative and articulate when it comes to storytelling through video, audio and written words. Developing competent media practice could well give entry into the media industry.

Welcome to our homepage.
Warriappendi is a unique school. Our main purpose is to support young people, mostly Aboriginal students, to re-engage in formal education processes.

We are very small secondary school. We work to provide a safe, challenging learning environment for young people who have previously had significant difficulties in traditional secondary schools.

We provide creative, flexible and meaningful programmes, which are delivered by our dedicated staff. The school has a warm and welcoming feel, and is a great place to teach and learn.

Warriappendi promotes environmental awareness and education. A waste allotment has been reclaimed and a native frog and fish pond built. Plants indigenous to the Adelaide Plains have been used.
